I have a video of signing, however, I am not exactly sure what to use to replace the audio, and my teacher was not there that day, so.... I do not have it up. Next week, I am going to make it my goal to finally have it up. I am going to practice the song a lot so I do not make any mistakes in the final presentation. Other than that, there is nothing really new.

I have a video of me signing to the song. However, I do not know how to post it without upgrading to Pro. Also, I need to change out the audio to the song, and cut out parts of the video. Honestly, when I was filming it, there were so many things going on right there that I messed up a few times too. So, I should probably just re-film the entire thing. At least now I know what to do so I can get it done faster. I should probably stay after school sometime this week to do this. Only 14 more days left until Genius Hour is due! o.0
Wow! It is April already! This year has gone by so fast, including this project! I am so pleased with how far I have come, and I hope that I will go farther still! This month I will be learning feeling and health signs. Some examples of feeling signs are happy, angry, sad, sorry, love, good, and bad. Some health signs include nice, hurt, wash, bathroom, clean and dirty. I really hope that I can learn most of these signs over spring break, but I am not sure how busy I will be. I am still signing to the song almost daily so I do not forget the song, but even if I did not sign to it daily I think I would still remember all the signs.
My topic of signs that I am learning today is... clothing! If you did not guess from the title... Anyway, I am learning basic clothing signs today along with signs for getting dressed. Some examples of these signs are shirt, pants, belt, dress, shoes, sweater, sweatshirt, pajamas, and slippers. I am just going to www.signingsavvy.com and searching every single word. The word does not just pop though. You have to go through the alphabet and find that word. That is why it is taking me a few days to learn all of these signs.
Well, since I am done with learning the signs to the song, I do not really have to worry about falling behind. This month I am learning clothing and animal signs. Throughout this month and April, I will also be learning random signs that don't really have a category, but are frequently used. Some examples of these words are make, all, would, think, new, and other words like that. That is all for today!
For one of our assignments, we were told to create a presentation and present to the class on our progress on out project. I am very happy that it went well. I performed signing to "Demons," and I messed up once or twice, but nothing too noticeable, which I was very happy about. Overall, the presentation was pretty good. I have posted the video of the signing below. Unfortunately, there is no sound in the video, but the signing is pretty good. I have just finished learning the signs to "Demons" by Imagine Dragons! I never thought that I would be done this quickly be I am very pleased with the progress! I hope post a video of me signing the entire song, hopefully sooner than later, but right now I just do not have the time. Words cannot describe how excited I am that I have that finished! All I need to do now if rehearse the song (a lot) so I can perfect it! I am still working on January signs, and if you forget what they are, it is posted beneath this last post. The image below is the sign for excited!
I have been watching a lot of videos on YouTube of signed songs. I found a few really cool videos, one of which I will post below. The song I will post is 'Wreaking Ball' by Miley Cyrus, and it is signed and interpreted by Gina Psallidas and Michelle Marcarelli. I know a lot of people are not a fan of Miley Cyrus, but this song looks really cool in sign language. I love how during the refrain these two are in sync and on time exactly. I spent an entire hour yesterday on YouTube watching people sign songs. It was quite fun. Welcome to January! It is a new year so that means more signs. I got busy during the Christmas season so I am now catching up on learning the December signs while learning January signs. January's signs are time and money. Some examples of time are day, night, before, month, year, today, and finish. Examples of money are dollars, cents, and cost. December signs are going well, which is a good thing because foods are words that are commonly used. Below is a picture of how to sign "time."
I am quite proud of myself for sticking with my implementation calendar! This month I am learning foods and temperature signs. Some examples of those are candy, hamburger, fork, apple, lunch, hungry, water, drink, hot, cold, and warm. There are not many temperature signs, but there are LOTS of different foods! Some foods do not have a sign, so those would have to be spelled out. Along with food words, I will be learning words like lunch, dinner, fork, spoon, plate, snack, and eat. Therefore, lots of the words are not just actual foods, but eating words and things you use to eat.
I have revised my implementation calendar. It is shown below. The smaller, italicized words are example words. I want to learn one or two categories of words per month, then I will have at least the basics down, and be able to have a conversation with someone. I am sticking to this calender quite well. This month I learned family members and requests, so some examples of these are brother, sister, cousin, grandma, uncle, please, thank you, what, and when.
So far, my progress with the song Demons has moved along, and I am getting more done than I was before. The video above is the one I am using to sign to, although I need to get used to signing without looking at the lyrics. I like using this video because the lyrics and the words in the video are in sync with each other, and the background and font are not distracting. I am at the line "They say its what you make". I am quite pleased with my progress. With learning sign language in general, by the end of the month, I would like to have learned most family and request signs, such as mom, cousin, grandpa, brother, please and thank you.
Pictured above is my poster board that I made to explain my project of learning American Sign Language. It includes my revised implementation calender, my objective and end product, why I chose ASL, helpful websites that I frequently use, lyrics to Demons, a mentor profile, and my name in ASL. It also includes a QR code to this website and a link to this as well. This poster board took me all of a Sunday afternoon to print, cut, and paste everything. For an update as to how signing to Demons is going, I have not made as much progress as I would like, but now I can sign about half of the refrain.
Since my last post, I have started learning the refrain the Demons, and so far it is going well. I now have a mentor, Sydni Bearss, who is a senior at Pewamo-Westphalia High School. Mrs. Esch, the ASL teacher, recommended her. She has given me great feedback by commenting on my last post. Sydni recommended that I watch some videos on YouTube of not only songs, but teachers explaining the signs. She also recommends to learn a lot of basic signs. So, I went on YouTube and found some videos that I will definitely watch, and hopefully I will learn a lot.

So far I have the first verse of Demons by Imagine Dragons learned and memorized.
